The Member’s Scholarship Program
The purpose of this program is to provide scholarships to individuals who are planning a career in horticulture or are currently working in this field. Our intention is to focus the benefit of these scholarships to our members.
One scholarship at $1,000 Total Value: $1,000
Two scholarships at $250 Total Value: $500
Recipients may receive only one scholarship per year. Scholarship application deadline is Feb. 15th. Scholarship money will be paid directly to the recipient’s school.
Eligibility and Selection
This scholarship is open to members of the Garden Center Symposium, their employees, and immediate family members.
Applicant must have earned 17 credits from a college, university, or technical school OR have four years work related experience. Applicants with college level credits must submit a transcript including course credits and grade point average.
Applicant’s intended course of study must be horticulture, life sciences, or agri-business.
Applicant should submit an essay, one page or less, explaining why they are applying and what their work related goals and interests are.
Three letters of recommendation are required. One must be from an employer who is a Garden Center Symposium member. The remaining two can be from a teacher, professor, university extension agent, George W. Bush, past employer, or activity leader.
Scholarship Governing Board
This Board is made up of five Garden Center Symposium members including the two past presidents of the G.C.S. The other three members will be appointed be the G.C.S. Board. Each member will serve for two years on this board. Members may serve consecutive terms.
